Latin IWelcome to Latin I! Our texts are Cambridge Latin Course Unit 1 and Cambridge Latin Course Unit 2: http://www.cambridgelatin.org/cup.html In addition, we will very frequently use the British support website for Cambridge Latin Course, www.cambridgescp.com . There you will work on your vocabulary, read stories, do activities related to the grammar and stories, and follow weblinks to learn more about Roman life. We have additional activities, labeled AM*.* or WB*.* from the Cambridge Activity Masters and Workbook for your level. These resources are available in your classroom. You may work through the stages at your own pace. It is very important, however, that you do some Latin work every day. A typical pace for Latin I is one week each for Stages 1 through 6, and two weeks each for the rest of the course. This pace will let you finish Latin I in one year. How to Complete a ChapterEach stage (chapter) has one or two activities that must be completed and turned in to your teacher. These activities demonstrate that you have mastered the material in that stage. Vocabulary StrategiesThese strategies will help you master the vocabulary for each chapter. This is very important. As you reach more advanced readings, knowing 70% or more of the vocabulary on the page will keep you reading; knowing less may make you too discouraged to continue. So master your vocabulary for each chapter, and review often! How to Read a StoryRead this before you begin the first chapter, and follow this method every time you read. Guiding QuestionsMy assignments for each stage begin with four questions. One question relates to Latin grammar, one to vocabulary, one to culture and history, and one to reading strategies. Use these questions at the beginning of the stage to orient yourself to the new concepts, and at the end to see if you have accomplished the most important objectives of the chapter.
